New concrete — when it’s the right call
New concrete is the answer when there’s nothing to resurface, or when the existing slab is too far gone for resurfacing to last. Driveways with serious structural cracking, slabs that have shifted on their base, expansion joints that have failed — these are signs the slab is past the point where an overlay will hold.
When new beats resurfacing
Sometimes the existing slab is just too far gone for a coating system to hold. If the underlying movement, cracking or drainage problems aren’t addressed, no resurfacing finish will last. In those cases we recommend a new pour and walk you through what’s involved.
Have we checked whether resurfacing would do it?
Before quoting a new pour, we check whether resurfacing would work. New concrete is the most expensive and most disruptive option, and it’s not always necessary.
Coloured concrete options
Coloured concrete is poured with the colour mixed through the slab rather than applied to the surface. The benefit over a surface stain is that the colour goes all the way through — small chips and surface wear don’t reveal a different colour underneath.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you remove the old concrete?
Yes — if the old slab is being replaced, demolition and removal are part of the job.
Why is one quote so much cheaper than the others?
Sometimes it is a smaller operator with lower overheads. Sometimes it means less prep, cheaper product, no proper repairs, no insurance, no warranty, or someone planning to be in and out before the problems show up. The prep is where cheap jobs usually fall apart.
What time of year is best for the work?
Most of the year is workable if the weather is dry enough and the concrete temperature is suitable. The main thing is avoiding rain, trapped moisture, extreme heat and conditions that do not give the coating or sealer enough time to cure properly.
Is the surface safe for kids and pets?
Once the coating and sealer have cured, it is fine for normal family use. During the job, kids and pets need to stay off the area until I say it is ready, because wet coatings, sealers and repair products are not something you want walked through the house.
